First Day of School

Today is as good a day as any to kick this thing back off, so I thought we'd start with a look at Leslie's first day of Kindergarten.

She has been so excited for, well, years now, at the prospect of starting school. The excitement level has been amped to the max for the last few months, however. She was often seen bouncing with energy, or 'practicing' for school with Kenna being the student and her the teacher.

This morning, both kids woke up extra early so as not to be late, and we made plans as a family to walk to school, with it only being about a 10-15 minute jaunt. Leslie was ready to go very quickly, decked out in her new dress (she says its like a wedding dress, because it has flower on it), and her Zhu Zhu pet backpack. Kenna was quite upset because we wouldn't let her bring 6 of her favorite stuffed animals on the walk.

At last we set out, and arrived in plenty of time. Leslie walked in, found her seat and set about busily coloring. She took a moment to wave at us, as if to say, "OK, why are YOU still here?" then got back to the work at hand.

Once we got back home and I (Chad) had headed to work, Kristin found an eager helper around the house in Kenna. Apparently, she hasn't yet figured out what to do in a life sans-Leslie for 7 hours. But those two had a good day of cleaning and games before I got home early to pick Leslie up from school with them.

Walking in the morning to drop her off was pleasant. Walking in the afternoon heat of over 100 was not good planning. This resulted in us deciding to drive to pick her up until the heat stops boiling our skin.

We waited for her to come out of the school, and when she finally saw us, she hopped up, excited, but clearly tired, and ran to meet us. She informed us she played on two playgrounds and that PE was taking a run. We asked her if she had any new friends, and she said yes, but couldn't remember their names. She also got to be the soap dispenser at lunch.

All in all, I'd say she's a fan of school.
