Gymnastics And Fall

Last week, we got to take the girls to the new Gym. Its a little bigger and much better lit. This week we got some great video of the girls in action. And we finally got a chance to see Kenna go at it.

Both of the girls are thoroughly enjoying gymnastics! Leslie is into her second six weeks at school and at our first Parent/Teacher conference she got a great report. She is in Discovery Kids, which is a sort of pre-Gifted/Talented class (they test in January). She is making friends, but also having to try and learn to stand up for herself.

Kenna is still doing MDO, and has a little friend that we never stop hearing about. Unfortunately for us its a little boy. Kenna is planning on going as Supergirl or Wonder Woman for Halloween, while Les is going as Belle from Beauty and the Beast. All three costumes are being made by Gamma Nana.

Kristin has stepped back from Arbonne stuff, and is getting more involved with School stuff. Chad has been busy with the church, meeting with people and organizations all the time.

First Day of School

Today is as good a day as any to kick this thing back off, so I thought we'd start with a look at Leslie's first day of Kindergarten.

She has been so excited for, well, years now, at the prospect of starting school. The excitement level has been amped to the max for the last few months, however. She was often seen bouncing with energy, or 'practicing' for school with Kenna being the student and her the teacher.

This morning, both kids woke up extra early so as not to be late, and we made plans as a family to walk to school, with it only being about a 10-15 minute jaunt. Leslie was ready to go very quickly, decked out in her new dress (she says its like a wedding dress, because it has flower on it), and her Zhu Zhu pet backpack. Kenna was quite upset because we wouldn't let her bring 6 of her favorite stuffed animals on the walk.

At last we set out, and arrived in plenty of time. Leslie walked in, found her seat and set about busily coloring. She took a moment to wave at us, as if to say, "OK, why are YOU still here?" then got back to the work at hand.

Once we got back home and I (Chad) had headed to work, Kristin found an eager helper around the house in Kenna. Apparently, she hasn't yet figured out what to do in a life sans-Leslie for 7 hours. But those two had a good day of cleaning and games before I got home early to pick Leslie up from school with them.

Walking in the morning to drop her off was pleasant. Walking in the afternoon heat of over 100 was not good planning. This resulted in us deciding to drive to pick her up until the heat stops boiling our skin.

We waited for her to come out of the school, and when she finally saw us, she hopped up, excited, but clearly tired, and ran to meet us. She informed us she played on two playgrounds and that PE was taking a run. We asked her if she had any new friends, and she said yes, but couldn't remember their names. She also got to be the soap dispenser at lunch.

All in all, I'd say she's a fan of school.

Gymnastics News

Since last we spoke, some new things have happened. Namely, Leslie and Kenna are BOTH now in gymnastics. Leslie continues to do her typical awesome job at stuff.
And Kenna surprised us all when she also seems to have a natural talent for this stuff.

Due to the new summer schedule, the girls will start going to gymnastics on Tuesday evenings, meaning I (Chad) can go all the time now. Kenna will be in a 4-5 year old class, and Leslie will be moving into an advanced class.

With spring ending here, it has been super hot, so a few weeks ago Kristin got the sprinklers out and then let the girls play around, which they had been begging for for months.

Altogether, we are getting into the swing of summer, and will have some more posts soon involving Mother's Day Out and other things.

What are the 5 Senses? It's when you count.

At Mother's Day Out this week, the kids are learning about the five senses. The teacher asks Leslie, what are the five senses. Leslie answered, "It's when you count." Clearly, all those Census ads are paying off.

Kenna is pretty much fully potty trained, which is awesome. She still refuses to learn to ride a tricycle. Apparently, if it requires effort, it's just not worth it to her.

The girls are loving spring this year, and spend most afternoons outside on the swingset. We are still trying to explain the concept of right-of-way on the swingset, and the lack of understanding has led to a few minor scrapes.

Hiking, Egging, and Hunting- Eggs That Is

We finally got a chance to get back to Mart to visit my (Chad's) mom, or as the girls call her, Gamma Nana. Mom lives on about 90 acres, and this time of year it is beautiful, so we made it a point to go for a walk. We also took our dog Missy. If dogs could talk, she would have screamed "FREEDOM!" We also learned that while Leslie is a total outdoorsy girl, loving to hike and be outside- Kenna is not.

They also got to jump on the trampoline and play on the swingset. Missy, meanwhile, was exhausted to the point that the mere sight of her leash brought fear to her eyes.

In preparation for Easter, we dyed eggs. This was a first, and the girls loved it. We all got involved and made our own, and there was surprisingly little mess.

We went to FBC Mart for church that morning, the girls, Kristin included, got to show off their new dresses.

After church was the main event- the Easter Egg hunt with the Cousins. My Uncle Darrell and cousin Kayla brought her boys over, whom the girls love. First we had them spin around in circles to make it more interesting, then set them out. It was fun, but tedious, as Gamma Nana's yard is huge. Once all the eggs were located (we think), they showed off what they had.

Easter was great, and we had a good time with the extended family. Hope yours was great, too!

Disney on Ice and the Potty

Last weekend, Kristin was able to take Leslie and Kenna to Disney on Ice with her mom, her brother and his two kids. The cool part was that until the day before, none of the kids knew anything about it. So the moment of revelation was quite a big deal.

Once there, the kids truly loved it, Leslie even told Kristin that "This is the BEST day of my life!" Peter Pan and the Princesses were big hits with all.

In the midst of this, Kenna was still potty training. Being that she is stubborn, much her mother and I, this was huge that she was actually committing to it. During this trip, she had no accidents! When Kristin told her how proud we were of her- Kenna responded with, "Welcome to my world!"

Today we helped out with Big Event, which is a service project A&M does around town. This was the second year our church, the Gate helped out, and we brought the kids again this year. We really believe that they need to learn to be servants, and besides they love raking leaves (mainly so they can jump in the piles, but still.)

So we have had a busy week here, and today Kenna gets her halfway-there potty prize. Ah, the joys of parenthood.

Howdy all!

This is the new site for all the family info of Chad, Kristin, Leslie and Kenna. Here we will regale you with tales of the kids, endeavors of the parents, and if we can figure it all out, pictures.

Lately, Kristin has been busily working at potty training Kenna, who is 3.5 and stubborn. Day one- disaster. Day two- MUCH better. Kenna made it to the potty several times, even informing Kristin of her need to do so. The big problem on Day two was that Kenna had an accident, but didn't tell anyone, including Leslie, who informed Kristin, "Kenna leaked, and I sat in it." Other than that, its been good.

Kristin also started selling Arbonne back in January, and has been 'partying' like crazy and doing an awesome job. She loves it, and that makes us all happy.

Leslie (5.5) has been in gymnastics since the fall. Her days are now spent in headstands and cartwheels, and furniture is often a springboard or trampoline.

Chad has been blogging over on Bored of Lesser Things- hence the need for this blog. He has also begun the process of getting his first book, Unfinished, published. It is a slow process. He also spent a week working on a new patio to replace the mud pit we have 'enjoyed' for the last year or so. Pictures....Now.

That's our lives at the moment, more to come.
